On Wednesday night, the Bishop Mcnamara Mustangs Boys Basketball Team faced off in a matchup against the Dematha Stags in the Maryland Private School State Basketball Tournament.
At the end of the first half, the Stags found themselves ahead 27-24, thanks to the play of their starting lineup. Lewis Logan and Malcolm Thomas scored 14 of the Stags 27 in half. While for the Mustangs, Jeremiah Quigly carried the load scoring ten points in the first two quarters. Dematha gained their lead thanks to their rebounding efforts grabbing 23 rebounds compared to Mcnamara’s 12 and eight offensive rebounds.
Coming out of the half, Mcnamara Coach Martin Keithline made the correct adjustments, and the Mustangs held a one-point lead, 47-46, in the third quarter. However, in the 4th quarter, Quigley would prove to be too much to handle for the stags as he added in 19 points in the second half and found support from Lugard Edokpayi, who grabbed six rebounds in the second half to finish with ten, as well as Chase Lawton and Prince Moody who both finished the game with 11 points.
The Mustangs looked motivated and focused in the second half on their way to a 64-60 win. They outrebounded the Stags 22-17, and in the fourth quarter, they made all the right plays to maintain their lead until the final buzzer. Bishop Mcnamara will take on Mt.Zion at Takoma Academy this Sunday, March 5th, at noon in the Final Four. If they win, they’ll advance to the Finals on Monday to face the winner of St. Andrews and Shabach National.
