Best Food Halls in the DMV

WASHINGTON BUSINESS JOURNAL: Food halls continue to proliferate in Greater Washington.

Greater Washington’s food hall scene continues to evolve following the Covid-19 pandemic, despite several projects hitting the skids due to the public health crisis.

While Baltimore chef Spike Gjerde nixed plans for a food hall at RiverPoint, the redevelopment of the former U.S. Coast Guard headquarters on Buzzard Point, a team including D.B. Lee Development & Construction plans to feature a different kind of food hall inside its planned mixed-use project nearby at 45 Q St. SW. That project, to include a Moxy hotel, isn’t slated to deliver till 2025.

Several others have delivered over the past year, with some of them already earning accolades, and more are poised to open in the next 12 months. Among the new offerings is Love, Makoto, which was recently added to the Michelin Guide for D.C. Others fall into the long-awaited category, including a new one coming to Ellsworth Place in Silver Spring.

Le Fantome is another local food hall on the rise. Inspired by the spirit of European cafe culture, Le Fantome is a vibrant all-day dining destination that is sure to satisfy any kind of culinary craving.

Located at The Station at Riverdale Park near the Whole Foods, Le Fantome is home to three casual dine-in vendors, a full service bar, and six ghost kitchen concepts that offer a unique array of epicurean offerings to guests and diners on the go.
