Bulldogs Cruise to 14-1 Win for Clean Sweep over Washington Adventist

BOWIE STATE ATHLETICS: The Bowie State Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 14-1 victory over the Washington Adventist Shock on Thursday evening for the twinbill sweep and 18th straight win against WAU all-time.

Sophomore Karen Fritzges (7-1) got the win for Bowie State (21-9). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Sophomore Brittany Brewer led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and two RBI. Sophomore Lindsey George compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Sophomore Morgan Joseph also contributed, going 1-for-1 for Bowie State with a triple and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Bowie State’s offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Joseph and a two-run single from freshman Trinity Mizelle.

The Bulldogs then held the Shock scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Sophomore Kayla Evans came across to score the lone run of the inning for Bowie State, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 8-0.

Washington Adventist narrowed Bowie State’s lead to 8-1 before the Bulldogs stretched the advantage to 14-1 in the third inning. The Bulldogs bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Breanna Harvey and a two-run triple from Brewer. The score remained 14-1 for the rest of the game, as BSU coasted to the win.

Bowie State begins Northern Division play on Saturday, Apr. 1 at Lincoln (PA). The conference doubleheader is slated to start the first game at 1 p.m.
