Bowie State Women’s Hoops Ready for Home Opener against Shepherd

BOWIE STATE ATHLETICS: The Bowie State women’s basketball team hits the court for its home opener Wednesday, Nov. 16 against Shepherd. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs are coming off a split at the Conference Challenge hosted by Shippensburg last weekend. BSU defeated Kutztown, 63-60 in overtime but dropped a 51-46 decision to the Raiders.

The Bulldogs Breakdown:
Bowie State sits 1-1 in the early portion of the season after Saturday’s loss to Shippensburg. In the game, Jayla Irvin led the way with nine points off the bench. Saniha Jackson continued to show her defensive prowess combining for 15 rebounds including nine against Shippensburg while Preseason All-CIAA Katerra Myers combined for 19 points and 11 rebounds in the two contests. Anii Harris and Irvin were named to the All-Tournament team as Harris led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points in the win over Kutztown.
 
The Bulldogs average roughly 54.5 points per game, shooting just 29.8-percent from the field. The Bulldogs have connected 10-of-35 shots from the 3-point line (28.6-percent) and 54-percent (21-39) at the charity stripe.
 
The Series:
Wednesday’s matchup with mark the four meeting between Shepherd and Bowie State since 2011. The Rams are 2-1 against the Bulldogs as Shepherd earned a 74-56 win over Bowie State during last season’s meeting in West Virginia.
 
Surveying Shepherd:
A member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Rams are still in search of its first win of the 2022-23 season. Shepherd fell to Alderson Broaddus (83-67) and Frostburg State (81-61) in the Jim Crawley Conference Challenge last weekend. Through two games, Shepherd combines for an average of 64 points per game, shooting 36-percent from the field.
 
The leading scorer for the Rams is Peyton Grant with 14 points per game, she scored a team-high 15 points against Alderson Broaddus. On the glass, Shepherd averages 34 rebounds led by Sydney Bolles who has a team-high 9.0 rebounds per outing.
