ABC7: A new library is opening in Bladensburg Wednesday morning as a part of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System’s (PGCMLS) efforts to provide “sustainable, modern, and welcoming branches that serve as hubs for the community,” officials said.
Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m.
The new 22,834-square-foot library is PGCMLS’ first-ever certified LEED Silver facility and includes solar panels on the roof, permeable pavers, electric car charging stations, and energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems.
The new branch library has:
- 50 public computers
- A maker space/computer lab
- Meeting and study spaces
- A vending cafe and two-sided fireplace
- A comfort room for nursing mothers
- Two Art in Public Places commissions
In addition, officials added that the theme of the children’s area is “Discovery Harbor,” which was chosen to commemorate the Town of Bladensburg’s rich maritime history.
