Bowie State Men’s Basketball to Begin Conference Slate, Starts Thursday at Livingstone

BOWIE STATE ATHLETICS: Bowie State men’s basketball hits the road again this week for its first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) road game of the season, at Livingstone on Thursday, Dec. 15 (7:30 p.m. CIAA Sports Network). Following the Thursday’s game, the Bulldogs will travel to Johnson C. Smith on Dec. 17 for a 4 p.m. contest, and a 7:30 p.m. tip-off with Winston-Salem State on Dec. 19 before the holiday break on Dec. 20-26.

Scouting the Bulldogs (2-9)
Bowie State has lost its last six games entering Thursday’s contest. The Bulldogs are coming off a 66-60 setback to Wilmington at home on Saturday. Junior Mark Bradshaw (West Chester, PA) scored a game-high 24 points and six rebounds while junior Anthony Carpenter (Reisterstown, MD) also added six points, eight rebounds and two steals and junior Joel Webb (Forestville, MD) helped out with seven points.
 
BSU is a team that’s averaging 71.9 points per game (9th in CIAA) but have trailed its opponents by a 5.5 scoring margin (77.4 points per outing) which ranks them 12th amongst the conference standings. The Bulldogs two wins came against Frostburg State (94-79) on Nov. 11 and Bloomfield (85-81) on Nov. 21. Bradshaw is eighth in the CIAA for scoring, charting 13.8 points per game and the leagues leader in 3-point field goals made (26). Defensively, junior Elijah Rantin (Baltimore, MD) is top-10 in the CIAA for blocked shots with an average of .8 and sophomore Caleb Johnson (Baltimore, MD) is also eight in the league for steals with 20.
 
Last Time against Livingstone
Bowie State dropped a 74-61 decision to Livingstone during its last meeting which occurred on Jan. 13, 2022. Drayton posted a team-high 12 points but collectively, BSU saw disadvantages in points off of turnovers (18-13), fast break points (20-7) and points in the paint (35-32). The loss dipped the Bulldogs to 3-5 on the road against the Blue Bears and extending its losing skid to two-straight. Bowie State’s last victory against Livingstone occurred during the 2019-20 season in which the Bulldogs took an 80-73 win in A.C. Jordan Arena.
 
Scouting the Blue Bears
Livingstone is 4-4, having won its last three games entering Thursday’s game. The Blue Bears defeated Anderson, 104-103 on Dec. 10. Teon Tiller recorded 27 points and five rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting while Detionne Leach and De’Marr McCrae added 19 and 16 points, respectively. The Blue Bears is the conference top offensive team, averaging 84.4 points per game while defensively, they’ve allowed its opponents to average 76.3 points. LC is second in the league in team field goal percentage (48.7-percent).
 
This will be LC’s second home game of the season, the Blue Bears fell to 93-80 to Coker on Nov. 22.
 
Upcoming Schedule
This game begins a three-game road trip for Bowie State. The Bulldogs heads south to North Carolina to face Johnson C. Smith in a 4 p.m. contest Saturday, Dec. 17. Bowie State will face its third CIAA opponent of the season on Monday, Dec. 19 with a matchup at Winston-Salem State at 7:30 p.m.
 
Coming off the holiday break, the Bulldogs will host nationally ranked West Liberty on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. in A.C. Jordan Arena.
