Homicides and Carjackings Rise in Prince George’s County, Baltimore City Reports Decline in Crime

FOX 5: As Baltimore city is reporting murders, non-fatal shootings, and robberies being on the decline, in Prince George’s County, it’s quite the opposite.

The county has seen its hundredth homicide for the year.

In 2022, the county ended up with 102 for the year.

Prince George’s County Executive, Angela Alsobrooks spoke with our sister station ABC7 on Thursday.

“It is very heartbreaking for us and we’re working with urgency to make sure that we’re addressing the violence that we’re seeing,” said Alsobrooks.

Carjackings are also up in the county. As of Monday, there have been 409 carjackings, compared to 360 this time last year.

That is an increase of 49 percent. Robberies are up 29 percent. Alsobrooks attributed the spike in crime to the current juvenile justice laws.

“I hear police say all the time that they arrest youth, who say why don’t you hurry up and finish this paper because I’m gonna be released before the ink dries,” said Alsobrooks.
