Bowie State Softball Earns Top Seed in 2023 CIAA Softball Championship, Hosts Virginia Union Tuesday

BOWIE STATE: Bowie State (31-13) secured its first conference regular season championship in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in over a decade and second Northern Division title under the Ed Powell era thanks to a 14-2 record against CIAA opponents and a 8-2 mark in the division this season.

2023 has been a historical year for the Bulldogs who reached a new program record for most wins in a season at 31. The record was previously set at 26 wins back in 2009.

The Bulldogs earned the No. 1 overall seed and will host the No. 8 seed Virginia Union Lady Panthers on Tuesday, May 2 at 1 p.m. from the BSU Softball Field. The game will air live on the Bowie State Sports Network and live stats can be found here.

In addition to the Bulldogs number one seed and quarterfinal game against No. 8 Virginia Union, the remaining tournament pairings feature No. 2 Claflin hosting No. 7 Johnson C. Smith, No. 3 Winston-Salem State hosting No. 6 Elizabeth City State and No. 4 Virginia State hosting No. 5 Fayetteville State. 

Advancing teams will head to the semifinal and championship rounds on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at RF&P Park in Glen Allen, Va. The RF&P Park located at 3400 Mountain Road Glen Allen, VA 23060.
