Bowie State Bulldogs Softball Named No. 8 Seed in NCAA Tournament after being crowned CIAA Champions

BOWIE STATE ATHLETICS: The 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Champion Bowie State Bulldogs softball team was selected as the No. 8 seed in the Atlantic Region and will face the No. 1 seed East Stroudsburg at Creekview Park’s Vigon International Field beginning on Thursday, May 11 through Saturday, May 13. The tournament is double-elimination.

The Bulldogs will take on the Warriors on Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. in Stroudsburg, Pa.

Bowie State joins No. 4 West Chester, No. 5 West Virginia Wesleyan at Creekview Park. The NCAA Tournament selection is the fourth overall berth in program history and first under the leadership of head coach Ed Powell.

BSU (35-14) is is in the midst of one of its best seasons in program history, breaking its wins record and finishing first in the CIAA Northern Division during the regular season and conference champions for the first time since 2009. The Bulldogs had seven named to the All-Conference Team including Player of the Year and Tournament MVP in sophomore Lindsey George. In addition to the four First Team All-CIAA recipients (George, sophomore Brittany Brewer, sophomore Jayla Hill and junior Akirra Pullen) and three All-CIAA Second Team honorees (freshman Trinity Mizelle, graduate senior Aseyah Alexander and sophomore Kayla Evans), the Bulldogs had three players named to the 2023 CIAA Softball All-Tournament Team in George, Mizelle and Evans.

Creekview Park’s Vigon International Field will be the site of two contests on Thursday, three games on Friday, along with potential two games Sunday.
