Bowie State Basketball Travels to Virginia State for Road Finale Wednesday

BOWIE STATE ATHLETICS: The Bowie State men’s and women’s basketball teams will travel to Ettrick, Va., on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for its road finale against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe Virginia State in a televised doubleheader powered by HBCU GO TV.

Tip-off for the women’s game is at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. from the VSU Multipurpose Center.

Last Outing
The Bulldogs (13-10, 9-5 CIAA) fell to Virginia Union on Saturday (2/11), 69-51 in Richmond, Va. The loss dropped Bowie State to third in the Northern Division standings – tying with Elizabeth City State for a 5-3 record against North opponents.

As for men’s hoops, the Bulldogs dropped eight of its last 10 games with the loss to Virginia Union, 76-65 Saturday. Bowie State (6-20, 4-10 CIAA, 2-6 North) is sixth in the Northern Division.

Last Matchup
The Bulldogs women handled the Trojans of VSU 59-47 during the last meeting on Jan. 28 in Bowie, Md. Junior Jayla Irvin scored 22 points and sophomore Anii Harris added 21 to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. Harris was named the Eastern Star Most Valuable Player, tacking on four rebounds, two steals, a block and a steal. Bowie State grabbed 38 rebounds in the game compared to Virginia State’s 28, led by seven boards from sophomore Saniha Jackson. The Bulldogs also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 18 rebounds into 15 second chance points.

During the men’s competition, Bowie State suffered its fourth-straight loss to Virginia State with a 67-58 setback at home also on Jan. 28. The Bulldogs had three players score in double figures, led by senior Quinton Drayton, who had 23 points and was named the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free Masons of Maryland Most Valuable Player. Junior Joel Webb tacked on 10 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks and freshman Amare Wimbush helped out with 10 points and two blocks.How to Watch
