The New Hope Girls Basketball Team (Landover Hills, MD) finished their season 29-3 over the weekend at the Geico Nationals at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Ft. Myers, Florida. The tournament featured the top five girl’s teams in the nation, including Bishop Macnamara (Forestville, MD).
The Lady Cougars fell short to Montverde Academy 61-57 in the Championship Game. Senior Guard led the way for New Hope with 18 points, five rebounds, five steals, and five assists. While her fellow senior guard Jayln Brown added another 14 points, 3 rebounds and two assists. New Hope led 47-46 at the end of the third quarter before being outscored 15-10 in the fourth quarter.
Since 2019, when New Hope won the National Championship, they have been one of the nation’s most dominant girls basketball teams. New Hope still completed their season as the National Association of Christian Athletes Division I Champions and had three players receive All-Met Honors. Seniors Jalyn Brown and Kennedy Fauntleroy received first-team honors, while senior forward Alphonsia Elko received honorable mention honors.
