Bulldogs Softball Return to Win Column with Two Victories at Salem

The Bowie State softball team picked up a pair of wins over Salem (10-26) Saturday afternoon on the road. The Bulldogs climbed to 16-18-1 on the season after downing the Tigers 9-3 and 5-3 at Hope Field.

Bowie State trailed 1-0 after four innings before adding three runs in the fifth highlighted by a triple from freshman Kayla Evans (Bridgeville, DE). The Tigers then added two more runs in the sixth to tie the game at 3-even but the Bulldogs opened up the flood gates with six runs on seven hits that featured six singles and a triple for the win.

Four different Bulldogs went 2-for-4 from the plate while Evans tallied four RBI. Graduate senior Evvie Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) earned the win, improving to 8-7 overall. She threw all seven innings, striking out eight and allowing seven hits.

In game two, the Bulldogs faced a 2-0 deficit until bats came alive for BSU in the top of the seventh, squeezing out five runs that featured a double from sophomore Jahkya Watkins (Lynchburg, VA), a single from freshman Saniya Jones (Louisa, VA) and a single from senior Shanya Gordon (Elkridge, MD) while freshman Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) had reached base on a fielder’s choice. Bowie State held the Tigers to one run in the bottom in route to the 5-3 win and series sweep.

Six Bulldogs registered a hit in game two while Gordon finished with two RBI. Freshman Lindsey George (Fayetteville, GA) earned the win, allowing five hits, striking out seven to improve to 2-6 on the year.
